Welcome to the website of Cubble Head, Burtersett – a cottage in the Yorkshire Dales.
Cubble Head is a Grade II listed 18th century farmhouse on the edge of Burtersett – a lovely village in Wensleydale, just over a mile from Hawes. The house is fully modernised and has many original features including beamed ceilings and an interesting stone staircase. There are fabulous views from most of the windows. The house sleeps 6 people in 4 bedrooms and is ideal for a relaxing holiday in this beautiful Dale.
Downstairs, there is an entrance porch leading to a spacious living room with beamed ceiling and an open fire place. There are comfortable sofas and chairs and a flatscreen, digital television, DVD player, books and games. The separate dining room has an original stone fireplace with an electric log stove, a dining table and chairs , free WiFi and a payphone. The kitchen has recently been refitted with lovely solid oak units, plenty of cupboards and worktops. There is an electric glass hob, separate Bosch fan oven, built in fridge and separate freezer and a bread making machine. There is also an adjacent breakfast area with an oak table. The views from the kitchen and the breakfast area are magnificent! Also downstairs is a stylish bathroom newly refitted in 2013 with bath, over bath shower, washbasin, toilet, heated towel rail and airing cupboard. There is an understairs walk in cupboard with washer drier.
Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms and a separate shower room, which has been newly refitted for 2014. The main bedroom has a 6′ wide x 6’3 long ‘super king size’ double – which can also be arranged as twin beds if preferred. This room has a flat screen wall mounted digital colour TV, i-pod dock, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables and a window seat. A second bedroom has a 4’6″ double bed, ample walk-in storage, an antique stripped walnut chest, a window seat and a flat screen wall mounted digital colour TV. Both of these rooms are at the front of the house and have delightful views across our paddock and up to Wether Fell. There are also 2 pretty single bedrooms – each with ample storage, bedside table and window seat. All beds are very comfortable and all bedlinen including sheets, pillowcases, duvets and covers is supplied. Duvets are Hungarian goose down and are light and very cosy in Winter and cool in Summer. Synthetic alternatives are available for those who need them. We provide good quality towels for all guests.
The house is warm and cosy with oil fired central heating and radiators in every room.
Outside, the house is set in spacious grounds with a large, safe enclosed paddock area. There is a large flagged patio area to the side and front of the house and a table with chairs and a bench – perfect for an al fresco breakfast! As well as this, there is a large picnic table to the side and this has the most amazing views of Wensleydale. This gets the sun all day and many of our guests comment that all they want to do is sit there, relax and drink in the view!
There is ample parking for several cars in our yard at the top of the driveway and a separate area down the drive, next to the house, perfect for unloading.
There are fantastic walks in every direction from the house and the Pennine Way and Cam Head (a Roman road) are close by. Cyclists will be in their element – (the Tour de France route passes just half a mile from the house) and fishermen have the choice of rivers, a trout pond and Semerwater lake.
Well behaved pets are welcome. There is no smoking allowed.
Change over day is Saturday and prices range from £390 to £860 for a week. This includes all heating, electric, unlimited wi-fi etc. There is no booking fee and we don’t charge extra for pets.
